INTERVIEW WITH MARGARET TANNER
Q: What is your routine when working on a book?
I don't really have a routine, as such. I just find a quiet spot
where I can write without interruptions. If I am out somewhere
and inspiration comes, I scribble myself a little note. I never
go anywhere without a small notebook and a pen.
Q: Do you ever show people your WIP?
No
Q: Do you listen to music when you work?
No, never. I like peace and quiet. Peace and serenity set
my creative juices flowing.
Q: Who has influenced your writing the most?
Two of my favourite childhood authors. Ethel Turner and Mary Grant
Bruce who wrote stories set during the 1890's - 1920's or
thereabouts. They gave me a love of Australian history.
Another defining moment was when I toured the World War 1,
battlefields on the Somme in France, then went on to Belgium.
It was so poignant it is etched in my mind for ever. I have
written several stories set against the 1st World War background.
Devil's Ridge which is published by Whiskey Creek Press and
Shattered Dreams which is contracted by The Wild Rose Press
and is currently going through edits. I also have a couple
more manuscripts set during this time, which I haven't submitted
anywhere as yet.
Q: Have you always wanted to be an author?
Yes
Q: How do you write, free-thought, or from an outline?
Free-thought I think you would say, although I always seem to
have a very basic outline buzzing around in my head.
Q: Where can we find your work and what are you working
on now?
I have books published or contracted with the following publishers:
Whiskey Creek Press, The Wild Rose Press and Enspiren Press.
At the present time I have two books published by Whiskey Creek
Press - Devil's Ridge and Savage Utopia. Savage Utopia has
just been released. It is an historical romance set against
a background of the transportation of convicts (guilty or otherwise),
to the then penal colony of Australia. (www.whiskeycreepress.com)
My first novel from The Wild Rose Press - Holly and the Millionaire,
which is a contemporary romance, is due for releases on the
28th March. It is about a young widow, whose soldier
husband has been killed in Iraq. While fleeing from her
in-laws who are intent on stealing her daughter, she meets
a man who could make her happy again, if he could only put
aside the demons in his past and learn to trust a woman.

Q: Do you work on more than one book at a time?
No.
Q: What do you read when you are writing?
Sometimes I read a history book, if I want to check up on some
fact, I am uncertain of, other than that, I read books written
by me fellow romance writers.
Q: What would you say to an aspiring writer?
Follow your dream. Never give up. If one door slams in your
face, knock on another one and keep on knocking.
